Speedy Goes Broadband

Here in the United States the Road Runner is used as the mascot for Time Warner Cable's high-speed internet service of the same name. Now in the UK, Virgin Media has just started using Speedy Gonzales in their new ad campaign for their super-fast broadband internet service. The first commercial is below and Virgin has posted an "interview" with Speedy here.

UPDATE: Two more Speedy commercials have surfaced for the Virgin Broadband UK campaign. One features Sylvester, the other features Slowpoke Rodriguez.

Well, that was....interesting. Again, it's nice to see Speedy given some more time in the spotlight recently (although the less heard of about that rumoured CGI movie, the better). The animation seemed a tad "stiff" in places and whoever was voicing Speedy sounded on the ball here; not exactly like Mel Blanc but darn close.

Funny, Chris, I don't hear Blanc in the voice at all. Too high. I liked some of the three-quarters shots because the head construction sure looked like it was from Freleng's unit.
The story line isn't terribly funny and the opening shot would have been better if the characters weren't so small.

That's not a bad commercial, to be honest. At least this new TV/billboard campaign will give Speedy (and the Looney Tunes in general) some much needed exposure over here in Blighty.

This seems fine to me. Possibly because I don't care much for the character to begin with, but it seems pretty well done for a commercial.
