Kids WB Daffy Duck Show

Here's yet another flashback to the WB Network for you. In late 1996, to fill a gap in the Saturday morning schedule left by the cancellation of low-rated cartoons such as Freakazoid and to tie-in with the newly released movie Space Jam, Kids WB hastily assembled a compilation of classic Looney Tunes and called it The Daffy Duck Show. The show lasted 13 episodes, each containing two Daffy cartoons with one non-Daffy short in-between (usually featuring Sylvester or Foghorn). Possibly noteworthy for being the first network TV Looney Tunes show that mixed the Turner-owned "pre-1948" cartoons with the Warner-owned "post-1948" package.

The "hip" 30-second opening is below (the first couple seconds are chopped off, but you aren't missing much... just recycled footage of Daffy asking "Hey bud, ever see a duck jam?"). Note the space motif and constant references to "jammin'" in case you somehow missed that this was Space Jam promotion. Speaking of recycled footage, where does that bit of new-ish looking animation at the end (Daffy saying "This duck is in the house!") come from? I can't put my finger one it. Here it is:

I find it interesting that the bird and cat from "The Early Bird Dood It" (An MGM Avery cartoon) appears at the start.

I still have an old promo on tape from this show with Daffy asking, "You ever seen a duck jam?" and Yakko (from Animaniacs) replying, "No, but I have seen a tuna fish."

This blog is becoming ever so nostalgic. Someone should upload the Kids WB "Havin Fun" music video.

The glimpse of "The Early Bird Dood It" was actually from a promo for TNT's cartoon block (which I had recorded on this tape before the Daffy Show way back in 1996)... it WASN'T from the WB Network. Sorry for any confusion!

I actually use to watch this. I didn't care that there were only 13 episodes.

Also note that the music cues to introduce each cartoon and the short clip introductions were taken from WB's Bugs and Daffy show.

When Daffy says "I see stars" and the star crest spins, it reminds me of the Paramount on UPN opening (when UPN would show Paramount's 70's?-90's film library).
