"The Major Lied Til Dawn" (1938)

Here's a Frank Tashlin cartoon you don't see very often. It's an unusual cartoon for its time, and the always-clever Tashlin uses it to parody everything from safari pictures to "old timers telling tall tales" stories to Popeye. Seriously. It's actually not too far from a cartoon series that would appear over 30 years later, Total TV's "Commander McBragg".

It's seeing early works like this that make you realise Tashlin was clearly ahead of his time. The Popeye parody did it for me XD

With the exception of the usual African native stereotypes-a pretty good cartoon that I've never seen before. The part with the gazelles on pogo sticks and the butler on a leash was hillarious and the part where the forgetful elephant finally remembered what he was suppose to say was brilliant!

I've always loved this one and I hope it'll be in one LTGC...even if I doubt it due to racial stereotypes.
