David Alvarez: "Prospects Don't Look Good"

Here's a rather odd pairing that actually works: Yosemite Sam and Pete Puma, Bugs Bunny's one-shot opponent from Robert McKimson's "Rabbits' Kin". This story comes from Issue #133, Feb. 2006. I know of at least one other Pete/Sam story from around this time, also using Sam as a prospector.

What interests me about the best of these comics is that they try new character combinations never explored in the cartoons themselves. As with the cartoons, they work best when only 2 or 3 characters are involved, as opposed to the awful "all-star" type stories they've been known to do. Talented writers like Earl Kress, Dan Slott, Frank Strom, Sam Agro, Brett Koth, Sean Carolan, Jennifer Moore, Jesse McCann, and many others who have contributed stories over the years really seem to understand these characters.

He acts more like Mr. Jinks.

Pete Puma sure had a quite the character development in the comic series.
I highly enjoyed an earlier story that featured Sylvester, Sylvester Jr., and Taz. Taz comes to the aid of mouse being terrorized by Sylvester who was trying to teach his son to catch mice.
Hopefully the comics get better before the rumored cancellation happens...

I'm happy to see such interesting posts about the Looney Tunes comics, or at least, the best ones! Go for it!
I totally agree with Matt: sometimes in order to develop a good comic story there's always the work of a team of persons (e.g Earl Kress and David Alvarez, with his unmistakeable style) who really enjoy what they do!
It is also interesting the feature of various charachters in the comic books that were never seen togheter before, like in this case...
Hope you'll deepen this topic more!

I'm surprised that this story features Yosemite Sam and Pete Puma, two antagonistic characters, but it actually works better than it should. Pete makes a very funny dimwitted protagonist here, I must admit.

There was a earlier comic with Yosemite and Pete. But Pete was the antagonist and Sam was the protagonist.
Sam is mining in Pete's cave, but Pete is thinking of a Sam dinner!
