Yosemite Sam Goes to Hell, Part 2

Here's another good later Yosemite Sam cartoon, from 1960...with my comments.

But what I have in store to show you next...ohhhhh BROTHER!

Gee, I thought the next cartoon, "Lighter than Hare", was pretty good, despite Sam being off-model.

1960? that's the same year as Jerry Lewis's movie Cinderfella, in which a similar "opposite ends of the long table" gag is used. I wouldn't suggest that one copied the other, as hare to heir was 9/3/60, and cinderfella came out in december, but it does seem to suggest that gag men tend to think alike, much like the "coincidence" about the bugs bunny and tom & jerry cartoons that were both based on the same song, the same year, and both were noms for the oscar...

This is one of my all-time favorite Bugs/Sam cartoons. The timing on the dialog and gags is great, and it's a nice twist on the formula that Sam actually has to control his temper to succeed (to which he fails miserably at). I love the mansion backdrops, too.
