Cartoon Network Fancy Anvil Awards

From 2002, in five parts, are the wraparound segments from Cartoon Network's Fancy Anvil Awards Show. This mock Oscar special was a spot-on spoof of overblown award shows and, looking back at it now, a fond reminder of the tongue-in-cheek humor Cartoon Network used to be known for. In fact, this was one of the final such productions from CN (others included the yearly "Big Game" Super Bowl parody marathons). Lots of classic Warner Bros. and Hanna-Barbera characters make guest appearances including a surprisingly touching tribute to Bill Hanna, Maurice Noble and Chuck Jones by Porky Pig and a "dance" montage featuring a cavalcade of clips from vintage black-and-white WB shorts.

Man, they got away with just about anything then - case in point with Muriel and Miss Bellum having a girly giggle about their men...!

I've always admired these stints even when they were at their cheapest, although if they had enough budget to produce better animation than rely on looped/lifted cycles these would have been even better. I remember they did a series based on "I'm a Celebrity", which had bit of a cop out ending - Brak winning the show then him waking up in the Space Ghost Studio to learn it was all a dream.

And yeah, whose bright idea WAS it to combine the Flintstones with their Kiddiefied counterparts!?

Wow, I remember this! It's hard to believe Cartoon Network used to be like this!

Also, wasn't this shown on the same night of the real Academy Awards?

So were the winners never reviled?

In response to "the margaret"'s comment:

The winners were were revealed by showing the entire cartoons. They were edited out for YouTube viewing, or something.

I remember this special VERY well...

I even got through the busy phone vote lines I beleive in just one try.

And in repsonse to an "anymonus" comment: Yes, it was shown during the Academy Awards.

I was a big Cartoon Network watcher from late toddler days to 4th/5th grade, that's a fact you didn't know. And I bet you didn't know I watched more Looney Tunes than Popeye (I watched a little more Popeye when more B&W and color cartoons from "Her Honor The Mare" Popeye were shown on the 2004Popeye show. That was the only Paramount cartoons I saw on regular TV)

Cartoon Network's in a tough time now, but I believe this Cartoonstitute program will give the network much needed shot in the arm:
